Seismic hazard level commonly expressed in the form of a ground shaking response spectrum. It may also include an estimate of permanent ground deformation.
secondary element

An element that does not affect the ability of the structure to resist earthquake-induced deformations.
secondary component

Those components that are not required for lateral force resistance (contrasted to Primary Components). They may or may not actually resist some lateral forces.
seasoned lumber
Construction; Seismic safety
Lumber that has been dried. Seasoning takes place by open-air drying within the limits of moisture contents attainable by this method, or by controlled air drying (i.e., kiln drying).
