Solar power

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

Contributors in Solar power

Solar power

solar constant

Energy; Solar power

The average amount of solar radiation that reaches the earth's upper atmosphere on a surface perpendicular to the sun's rays; equal to 1353 Watts per square meter or 492 Btu per square foot.

czochralski process

Energy; Solar power

A method of growing large size, high quality semiconductor crystal by slowly lifting a seed crystal from a molten bath of the material under careful cooling conditions.

PV inverter

Energy; Solar power

A PV inverter is a type of electrical inverter that is made to change the direct current (DC) electricity from a photovoltaic array into alternating current (AC) for use with home appliances and ...

solar heat

Energy; Solar power

Heat generated by the sun as solar thermal energy.

photovoltaic device

Energy; Solar power

An electrical device that converts energy from a light source into direct current electricity; one of the most essential component of solar panels and solar power.

photovoltaic effect

Energy; Solar power

This process is stimulated when a photovoltaic cell is exposed to sunlight. As the photovoltaic cell absorbs sunlight, added energy causes electrons to break away. The fallen electrons move through ...

absorber

Energy; Solar power

The part of a photovoltaic device that takes in radiation (sunlight).
