Solar power

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

Contributors in Solar power

Solar power

building-integrated photovoltaic

Energy; Solar power

Incorporating photovoltaic technology into a building's design, usually resulting in roofing/skyline systems or glass-replacement designs.

diffuse insolation

Energy; Solar power

Due to natural or man-made obstructions in the sky (including but not limited to clouds, fog, haze, and pollution), scattered sunlight is indirectly received.

direct insolation

Energy; Solar power

Sunlight directly collected by a receiver.

dopant

Energy; Solar power

A chemical added in small quantities to a semiconductor to alter its conductivity

downtime

Energy; Solar power

Usually calculated in hours per year, downtime is the time that a photovoltaic system is unable to generate and provide power.

interconnect

Energy; Solar power

A conductor that is used to electrically connect solar cells with one another.

photovoltaics

Energy; Solar power

One category of solar power that produces electricity directly from solar energy.
