Atlanta

The capital of the state of Georgia, United States. Atlanta is the count seat of Fulton County. A small part of the city extends eastward into DeKalb County.

Atlanta is one of the most multicultural cities in the United States. Gentrification of Atlanta’s neighborhoods began in the late 1990’s and continued into the 21st century. It is currently estimated that .75 million foreign-born people make Atlanta their home. The city’s demographics, culture and image have changed as a result.

Atlanta is the most populous city in Georgia. According to 2010 Census data, Atlanta’s population was 420,003 inhabitants. Its metropolitan area is home to 5,268,860 people. It is the 9th largest metropolitan area in the United States. City dwellers and those who live around the city are referred to as “Atlantans”.

Atlanta is known for its cultural institutions, temperate weather, and dense forestation. Due to its mild climate, the city is sometimes referred to as “Hotlanta.” It is one of the most visited cities in the United States for both Americans and those visiting from other countries. The city is home to various art, history and entertainment venues.

Atlanta is one of ten cities in the United States to be classified as an “alpha-word city”. It serves as the headquarters for several major national and international Fortune 100 companies.
