Boudica (alternative spelling Boudicca, also known as Boadicea, died c. 60/61 AD) was queen of the British Iceni tribe who led an uprising against the occupying forces of the Roman Empire. When her husband died, Boudica was flogged and her daughters raped. She led an uprising which first started in Camulodunum (modern Colchester) and then moved on to Londinium (London), which was burned to the ground. The uprising cumulated in a battle somewhere along the Roman road of Watling Street It is unknown exactly how she died but it was certainly just after the battle against the Romans. In the Victorian era, Boudica was revived as an important cultural figure of the United Kingdom.
