Greenland

Greenland is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark, located between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Though physiographically a part of the continent of North America, Greenland has been politically associated with Europe (specifically Denmark-Norway) for about a millennium.

A voluntary part of Denmark between 1814 and 1979, but has since voted to give itself more autonomy while being supported by the Danish government. Denmark gives Greenland a yearly subsidy that it plans to phase out as Greenland finds its feet economically.

Currently the economy is largely supported by fishing exports, particularly shrimp, although the government plans to put a stronger focus on utilising its mineral deposits and hydrocarbons.

The country is home to only 60,000 people, making it the least densely populated country in the world. These people are almost universally Danish, Inuit, or a mix of both. 97% of the population are practicing Christians. Residents are often bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish, with Danish being used to conduct government business although there are considerations to change this.

Greenland currently still uses the Danish Krone as its unit of currency.
