Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford (born July 13, 1942) is an American actor. He gained worldwide fame for his starring roles as archaeological adventurer Indiana Jones in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and its sequels, and as the space hero Hans Solo in the original “Star Wars” series. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Ford started his acting career in 1962 with his roles in movies and television: The Virginian (1962) and Ironside (1967). Both shows were lackluster and, discouraged, he turned to professional carpentry. However, he came back to acting in a big way in 1973 as Bob Falfa in American Graffiti. Four years later, he scored major victory with the role of Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977). Another four years and Ford was Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981).

Ford received Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations in 1985 for his role as John Book in Witness. Many of his successful roles led to sequels as did his more recent portrayal of Jack Ryan in Patriot Games (1992). He received another Golden Globe nomination for the part of Dr. Richard Kimble in The Fugitive (1993). In 1997, Ford was ranked No. 1 in Empire's "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time" list. As of July 2008, the US domestic box office grosses of Ford's films total over US$3.5 billion, with worldwide grosses surpassing $6 billion, making Ford the 4th highest grossing U.S. domestic box-office star.

In addition to his acting career, Ford is a longtime aviation enthusiast. An avid flyer of both planes and helicopters, Ford was in a bad crash of a Bell chopper in 1999 in Santa Clara, California. Both Ford and his co-pilot survived the accident unharmed. On March 5, 2015, Ford was hurt when the small WW2 vintage plane he was piloting crashed into a golf course near Santa Monica Airport.
