Lone Survivor is an American action film about an Afghan war story starring Mark Wahlberg and Emile Hirsch. The film opened in limited release in the United States on December 25, 2013, before opening across North America on January 10, 2014. Written and directed by Peter Berg, the film features violent scenes and intense battle actions of a Navy SEAL mission gone awry to land in the high-teen millions over the three day journey. It portrays a gritty tale of courage and honor among American fighting men. The film received mostly positive reviews; critics praised Berg's direction, as well as the acting, story, visuals and battle sequences. Other reviewers however derided the film for focusing more on its action scenes than on characterization.
