Palace of Westminster

The Palace of Westminster, also known as the Houses of Parliament or Westminster Palace, is the meeting place of the two houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom - the House of Lords and the House of Commons. It lies on the banks of the River Thames in London. Parliament has been meeting on the site of the palace since the thirteenth century but the current palace was rebuilt from 1840-70 after a fire destroyed the original building in 1834. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
