These fundamental, basic values of societies, like life, health, etc that are indispensable for maintenance of social peace and prosperity of society and its members, as well as its normal development and evolution, are called 'legal values'. They are values because they are assessed by legal order as positive ones, as values that are necessary for social life, on the other side they are called 'legal values; because they are recognized and protected by legal order. Therefore, main purpose and mission of Penal Law is protection of these social, hence legal values, in the frame of function of Penal Law, as social Law.

Such legal values are as also said above, life, health, body security, honour, the personal will and disposal to information, disposal through determination of sexual identity, personal data/privacy, trust and confidence to legitimity of (official, valid) documents of transaction, for ex. commercial transactions, national defense, political regime of countries, attribution of Justice, within 'distinction of powers', thus here we talk on judicial power/authority, traffic safety and security, environment, seamless function of public agents, personal property, financial interests of countries, (here talking about Greece, those of E.E. etc).
