Sweeney Todd : the demon barber of Fleet Street
Sweeney Todd is a screen musicals directed by Tim Burton in 2007. It takes place in London during the 19th Century, and tells the story of a barber, Benjamin Barker, who used to live a happy life with his wife and daughter until the day the judge Turpin, deeply in love with Benjamin's wife, decides to send the barber to exile and force his wife to marry him. When finally coming back to London after years of banishment under the name of Sweeney Todd, he learns that his wife committed suicide and that his daughter is now judge Turpin's ward. His will of revenge will thus become his obsession and he decides to reopen his barber shop in the upsters flat of Ms Lovett, owner of a meat pie shop.
Here starts the story as such, led by his murderous rage, Sweeney starts slitting his customers' throat whose flesh is then turned into meat by Ms Lovett, his accomplice until the day he can finally put his hands on Turbin's throat.
The movie's scenery is dark with typical Burton's macabre humour punctuating the dialogues. The colours' theme is based on contrast between London's dark atmosphere and purposely unrealistic bright red blood.
The plot is well-led with an unexpected though inevitable conclusion ending perfectly this tragedy.
