The summary measure of the number of years that a person is expected to live in a state of full health, used by the World Health Organization. It aims to represent the overall average levels of the health of a population. This indicator is based on the combination of quantity of life and quality of life, meaning that it not only takes into consideration mortality but also morbidity to form one composite measure of population health. It takes into account the years lived in any state of poor health, due to disease and/or injury, in order to capture both fatal and non-fatal health outcomes.
