sand art

The practice of modelling into an artistic, and sometimes complex, form. The two basic ingredients for sand art are sand and water. Most sand art takes place on a beach where both materials are in abundance.

Children often create sandcastles, sculptures resembling castles or a miniature buildings. Adults also practice sand art, although most involve complex forms, such as of dragons or of people. Annual sand sculpting festivals and competitions are held where people can compete in solo, double, or team categories.

The world record for tallest sandcastle belongs to Ed Jarrett. His sandcastle was completed on May 20, 2011 and measured 37 ft 10 in (11.53 m). 800 tons of sand and water was used to construct the sandcastle.
