filter

A device that is placed in the path of the X-ray beam to attenuate and flatten it. Filters are placed either in the carousel, which rotates them into position, or on the kVS collimator, on individually motorized filter decks. Beam-hardening filters are metal; beam-shaping filters may be metal or other material.
