La línea que indica dónde la tierra y el cielo parece que se reúnen en una imagen de paisaje, o, alternativamente, por lo que parece, si no quede oculta o se indistinta interviniendo objetos y las irregularidades topográficas. En la perspectiva lineal, el punto de fuga es normalmente situado en la línea del horizonte, en la medida en esta línea indica el nivel de los ojos del espectador de la escena representada.
