Genetic engineering

The science of modifying and manipulating genes to create new artificial DNA or synthetic genes of different organisms. There are many purposes for genetic engineering, some of which include finding better treatment for diseases, or simply for discovering new organism of interest.

Contributors in Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering

cross-breeding

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Mating between members of different populations (lines, breeds, races or species).

assortative mating

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Mating in which the partners are chosen on the basis of phenotypic similarity.

inbreeding

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Matings between individuals that have one or more ancestors in common, the extreme condition being self-fertilization, which occurs in many plants and some primitive animals.

cytokinin

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Plant growth regulators (hormones) characterized as substances that induce cell division and cell differentiation (e.g., BA, kinetin, and 2-iP). In tissue culture, these substances are associated ...

gibberellins

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Plant growth regulators involved in elongation, enhancement of flower, fruit and leaf size, germination, vernalization and other processes.

phytosanitary

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Plant health, including quarantine.

long-day plant

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Plant requiring short nights before flowering is initiated.
