Genetic engineering

The science of modifying and manipulating genes to create new artificial DNA or synthetic genes of different organisms. There are many purposes for genetic engineering, some of which include finding better treatment for diseases, or simply for discovering new organism of interest.

Contributors in Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering

seed storage proteins

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Proteins accumulated in large amounts in seeds not because of their enzymatic or structural properties but simply as a convenient source of amino acid for use when the seed germinates. They are of ...

complement proteins

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Proteins that bind to antibody-antigen complexes and help degrade the complexes by proteolysis.

G-proteins

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Proteins with an important role in relaying signals in mammalian cells. The proteins occur on the inner surface of the plasma membrane and transmit signals from outside the membrane, via ...

deliberate release

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Putting something into the outside world; in biotechnology it means putting a genetically modified organism (GMO) into field trials.

quiescent

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Quiet, at rest, but not necessarily dormant, and having the potential for resumed activity; can apply to non-meristematic cells.

micro-isolating system

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Mechanical separation of single cells or protoplasts thus allowing them to proliferate individually.

liquid media

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Media without a solidifying agent.
