Genetic engineering

The science of modifying and manipulating genes to create new artificial DNA or synthetic genes of different organisms. There are many purposes for genetic engineering, some of which include finding better treatment for diseases, or simply for discovering new organism of interest.

Contributors in Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering

dichogamy

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The condition in which the male and the female reproductive organs of a flower mature at different times, thereby making self-fertilization improbable or impossible.

water stress

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The condition when plants are unable to absorb enough water to replace that lost by transpiration. The results may be wilting, cessation of growth, or even death of the plant or plant parts.

gene conservation

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The conservation of species, populations, individuals or parts of individuals, by in situ or ex situ methods, to provide a diversity of genetic materials for present and future generations.

genetic resources conservation

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The conservation of species, populations, individuals or parts of individuals, by in situ or ex situ methods, to provide a diversity of genetic materials for present and future generations.

biocontrol

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The control of living organisms (especially pests) by biological means. Any process using deliberately introduced living organisms to restrain the growth and development of other, very often ...

volatilization

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The conversion of a solid or liquid into a gas or vapour.

nitrogen fixation

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The conversion of atmospheric nitrogen (N 2 ) into oxidized forms that can be assimilated by plants. Biological nitrogen fixation is catalysed by the enzyme nitrogenase, which is found only in ...
