Genetic engineering

The science of modifying and manipulating genes to create new artificial DNA or synthetic genes of different organisms. There are many purposes for genetic engineering, some of which include finding better treatment for diseases, or simply for discovering new organism of interest.

Contributors in Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering

pathotoxin

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Very dilute substance synthesized and released by some pathogen, and which interacts with the host metabolism.

microplasts

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Vesicles produced by subdivision and fragmentation of protoplasts or thin-walled cells.

tank bioreactor

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Vessel in which fermentation takes place. A tank bioreactor is a vessel in which a micro-organism is grown in a large volume of liquid. This contrasts with fibre or membrane bioreactors and ...

leaf roll

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Virus diseases characterized by symptomatic curling of the host's leaves.

cell sap

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Water and dissolved substances, sugar, amino acids, waste substances, etc., in the plant cell vacuole.

bound water

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Water held by the cell and not released if freezing occurs in the intercellular space. cf free water.

free water

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Water released by a cell when freezing occurs in intercellular spaces. cf bound water.
