Genetic engineering

The science of modifying and manipulating genes to create new artificial DNA or synthetic genes of different organisms. There are many purposes for genetic engineering, some of which include finding better treatment for diseases, or simply for discovering new organism of interest.

Contributors in Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering

genetic complementation

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

When two DNA molecules that are in the same cell together produce a function that neither DNA molecule can supply on its own. a.k.a. complementation.

co-segregation

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

When two genetic conditions appear to be inherited together.

intrageneric

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Within a genus, such as a hybrid resulting from a cross between species within one genus.

intraspecific

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Within a species or its populations, including subspecies, such as an intraspecific cross, or variation.

secondary xylem

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Xylem tissue formed by the vascular cambium during secondary growth in a vascular plant.

yeast artificial chromosome (YAC)

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

YAC is used as a vector system for cloning DNA fragments that can be hundreds of kilobases long. Linear cloning vectors constructed from essential elements of yeast chromosomes. They can accommodate ...

offset

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Young plant produced at the base of a mature plant.
