Natural gas

Natural gas is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon gas mixture consisting primarily of methane, with up to 20 % of other hydrocarbons as well as impurities in varying amounts such as carbon dioxide. Natural gas is widely used as an important energy source in many applications including heating buildings, generating electricity, providing heat and power to industry, as fuel for vehicles and as a chemical feedstock in the manufacture of products such as plastics and other commercially important organic chemicals.

hydraulic actuator

Energy; Natural gas

hydrostatic test

Energy; Natural gas

A pressure test in which a valve is tested with water to detect leaks - may be a shell test or a seat closure test.

id

Energy; Natural gas

The measurement of the inside diameter of a circular part.

inherent flwo characteristic

Energy; Natural gas

The flow characteristic of a valve if the pressure drop across the valve is held constant.

inside rising stem (ISRS)

Energy; Natural gas

A stem design in which male threads on the stem mate with femal threads in the valve bonnet; turning the stem causes it to move out of (rise) or into the valve.

inside screw, rising stem (ISRS)

Energy; Natural gas

Common term for any valve design in which the stem threads are exposed to the fluid below the packing and the stem rises up through the packing when the valve is opened.

installed flow charasteristic
