Plastic injection molding

Plastic injection molding is the primary process for manufacturing plastic parts used in consumer goods such as computer keyboards, monitors, bottle caps, cups and solid plastic articles. Plastic is known to be a very versatile and economical material that is used in many applications. Injection molding involves taking plastic in the form of pellets or granules and heating this material until a melt is obtained. Then the melt is forced into a split-die chamber/mold where it is allowed to "cool" into the desired shape. The mold is then opened and the part is ejected, at which time the cycle is repeated.

entrance to the part from the runner located on the parting line.

mold release problems

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

Excess use of mold release may leave parts oily and weaken the material.

stress-crack

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

External or internal cracks in a plastic caused by tensile stresses less than that of its short-time mechanical strength. The development of such cracks is frequently accelerated by the environment ...

non-fill

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

Failure to completely fill the mold or cavities of the mold. Edges may appear melted.

short shot

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

Failure to completely fill the mold or cavities of the mold. Edges may appear melted.

dispersion aids

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

Flow alteration components placed at the entry point of an additive to aid in mixing or dispersing actions of a compounding process.

multidirectional flow

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

flow direction changes during filling resulting in orientation in different directions which can cause flow marks, stresses and warping.
