Resistors

through-hole resistor

Electronic components; Resistors

A resistor that uses leads that penetrate the printed wiring board for mounting. For example the RNC90 resistor shown in the side-bar.

lead-screw

Electronic components; Resistors

A variable resistor that is actuated by a lead-screw. Resistors may be wire-wound or non-wirewound and may be single-turn or multi-turn.

dummy load

Electronic components; Resistors

A resistor used to terminate a line. A Dummy load is normally found as a removable device or component and inserted during test or debug.

nonlinear variable resistor

Electronic components; Resistors

A resistor that does not change value in a linear fashion. An audio or logarithmic taper. A shunt resistor applied to a variable resistor.

water-cooled resistor

Electronic components; Resistors

A high wattage resistor that uses water to cool the device. The water flows via pipes within the resistor to draw heat away from the device.

ferrule-terminal resistor

Electronic components; Resistors

A Tubular resistor. Ferrule resistors use a tab at either end of the tub for mounting, and may also be referred to as tab-terminal resistors.

lead-style

Electronic components; Resistors

The lead type that a resistor uses which includes ferrule, lug terminal, solder tab, and quick connect. The manner in which the resistor connects to the circuit.
