Solar power
Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

Solar power
thermophotovoltaic cell (TPV)
Energy; Solar power
A device where sunlight concentrated onto a absorber heats it to a high temperature, and the thermal radiation emitted by the absorber is used as the energy source for a photovoltaic cell that is ...
electrodeposition
Energy; Solar power
Electrolytic process in which a metal is deposited at the cathode from a solution of its ions.
thick-crystalline materials
Energy; Solar power
Semiconductor material, typically measuring from 200-400 microns thick, that is cut from ingots or ribbons.
electrolyte
Energy; Solar power
A nonmetallic (liquid or solid) conductor that carries current by the movement of ions (instead of electrons) with the liberation of matter at the electrodes of an electrochemical cell.
thin film
Energy; Solar power
A layer of semiconductor material, such as copper indium diselenide or gallium arsenide, a few microns or less in thickness, used to make photovoltaic cells.
electron
Energy; Solar power
An elementary particle of an atom with a negative electrical charge and a mass of 1/1837 of a proton; electrons surround the positively charged nucleus of an atom and determine the chemical ...
