Solar power

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

Contributors in Solar power

Solar power

thin film photovoltaic module

Energy; Solar power

A photovoltaic module constructed with sequential layers of thin film semiconductor materials. See amorphous silicon.

electron volt (EV)

Energy; Solar power

The amount of kinetic energy gained by an electron when accelerated through an electric potential difference of 1 Volt; equivalent to 1.603 x 10^-19; a unit of energy or work.

tilt angle

Energy; Solar power

The angle at which a photovoltaic array is set to face the sun relative to a horizontal position. The tilt angle can be set or adjusted to maximize seasonal or annual energy collection.

energy

Energy; Solar power

The capability of doing work; different forms of energy can be converted to other forms, but the total amount of energy remains the same.

tin oxide

Energy; Solar power

A wide band-gap semiconductor similar to indium oxide; used in heterojunction solar cells or to make a transparent conductive film, called NESA glass when deposited on glass.

energy audit

Energy; Solar power

A survey that shows how much energy used in a home, which helps find ways to use less energy.

total ac load demand

Energy; Solar power

The sum of the alternating current loads. This value is important when selecting an inverter.
