Apple

The name Apple wasn't Apple Computer's first choice of an official business name. Initially, the company’s three original founders wanted to name their new venture "Snapple" which they had to subsequently drop following a copyright dispute with soft drink maker Dr. Pepper. Being an avowed ‘fruitarian’ at the time, the then 20-year-old Jobs chose the name Apple after he was inspired by a visit to an apple orchard. The name Apple, however, also caused the company years of trademark dispute with The Beatles' record label, Apple Corps. Apple Corps sued the computer maker for trademark infringement in 1979, the first of several suits between the two companies. The last of these lawsuits was settled in 2007, but it was another three years before The Beatles catalog finally appeared on the iTunes store.
