alias point code

A Signaling System No. 7 (SS7) address that is shared by more than one system supporting the same GTT (global title translation) function (or other SS7 function. ) It allows other systems to address the function instead of maintaining the status of multiple point codes. 2. A point code that may be assigned to more than one signaling point, each of which is also assigned a "real" point code. Note: Each of the signaling points having the same "alias" point code is capable of providing a predefined functionality (capability) in the network. As an example for management of global translation capability, an STP (signaling transition point) and its mate can be assigned the same "alias" point code. This provides the capability such that if a message that requires global title translation is routed based on "alias" point code, then either STP answering to the "alias" point code can provide the global title translation functionality. Synonym capability code.
