Definition :

Mainstream – adjective

Normal, and having or using ideas, beliefs, etc. that are accepted by most people.

Notes:

Can also be a noun with a similar definition.

Critic:

The term “mainstream” can be used in various categories, such as art and music. If a type of music is mainstream, it means that the lyrics or the sound has become accepted by society and is compatible (Mainstream) with its values. In some music categories, like pop punk, the term is also associated with criticism. If a band becomes mainstream, it means that it might have changed or adjusted its sound to conform to society and radio norms. To achieve mainstream success, it means the music has become very popular and known by most people.

Context:

"While the old heroes of the genre, such as Green Day and Blink-182, continue to achieve commercial success and fill stadiums — albeit with a radically different sound from when they started —, fewer and fewer new pop punk acts are achieving — success (M.)."
