respondent behavior
1) Behavior elicited by stimuli . Respondent behavior was once considered primarily autonomic (e.g., responses of glands and smooth muscles), but the reflex relation defines respondent behavior regardless of the character of the response. Thus, skeletal responses may have respondent characteristics.
2) A response that is lawfully elicited by antecedent stimuli. Also, reflexive behavior.
3) Behavior that is most readily influenced by events that precede it; reflexive behavior.
4) Behavior which is controlled by the stimulus which precedes it. The stimulus-response sequence is called a reflex. Blinking at a puff of air, blushing at a compliment, and jumping at a loud sound are examples of response behavior.
