The Herons are another art form that came from Chihuly's experimentation with blowing different shapes and using new techniques during his glass workshop in Finland. After making the Reeds, he continued to push his team to try new creations with the elongated tube form. Among the experiments, they made pieces that looked to them like herons, the wading birds with a striking pose found along shorelines and lakes. Chihuly often names his glass pieces after terms he uses with his glassblowers as they attempt to describe the shapes they created through experimentation.
