Immunology

Immunology is the study of the structuree and function of the immune system which is responsible for the protection from invading foreign macromolecules or organisms. It is a broad branch of biomedical science that covers the study of all aspects of the immune system in organisms. It deals with the physiological functioning of the immune system in both healthy states and immunological disorders (autoimmune diseases, hypersensitivities, immune deficiency, transplant rejection); the physical, chemical and physiological characteristics of the components of the immune system in vitro, in situ, and in vivo.

Contributors in Immunology

Immunology

C1 esterase inhibitor (C1 INH)

Biology; Immunology

A serum protein that inhibits the function of activated C1.

complement component 1q (C1q)

Biology; Immunology

An 18-polypeptide chain subcomponent of C1, the first component of complement. It commences the classical complement pathway.

C1q deficiency

Biology; Immunology

Deficiency of C1q may be found in association with lupus-like syndromes.

complement component 1r (C1r)

Biology; Immunology

A subcomponent of C1, the first component of complement in the classical activation pathway. It is a serine esterase.

complement component 1s (C1s)

Biology; Immunology

A serine esterase that is a subcomponent of C1, the first component of complement in the classical activation pathway. Ca 2+ binds two C1s molecules to the C1q stalk.

complement component 2 (C2)

Biology; Immunology

The third complement protein to participate in the classical complement pathway activation. C2 is a single polypeptide chain that unites with C4b molecules on the cell surface in the presence of Mg ...

C2 deficiency

Biology; Immunology

Rare individuals may demonstrate a failure to express C2. Although, in general, no symptoms are associated with this trait, which has an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance, autoimmune-like ...
