varigated calamondin limes

The calamondin lime, scientific name, X Citrofortunella microcarpa, is also known as the lime orange, Variegated calamondin orange, or Peters. These various references to orange are due to the fact that the calamondin lime is actually a hybrid between a Kumquat and other species within the citrus genus.

The Variegated calamondin lime is a small citrus fruit that has a similar appearance to a miniature lemon or lime. Except these limes boast vibrant green striations on a bright yellow backdrop, which surrounds one of the most striking features of the Variegated calamondin lime; its brilliantly orange pulp. Variegated calamondin’s have a thin peel, small, easily separated sections, and a seed laden flesh that is filled with sharply tart and sour juice. These limes are usually picked when young, when their flavor is most bold and refreshing. If left to mature on the tree they will turn completely yellow, even orange.

Seasons/Availability

Variegated calamondin limes are available year round, with peak season in the winter months.
