Human genome
The human genome consists of 23 chromosome and the small mitochondrial DNA. 22 of the 23 chromosomes are autosomal chromosome pairs and the last one being a gender-determining pair. In total, the human genome contains the sequences of the 3 billion chemical base pairs that make up human DNA and approximately 20,000-25,000 genes. By understanding human genome, scientists are able to develop new medical applications that can significantly advance the state of health care.

Human genome
benign
Medical; Human genome
Not cancerous; does not invade nearby tissue or spread to other parts of the body.
carboxylation
Medical; Human genome
To introduce carboxyl or carbon dioxide into (a compound) with formation of a carboxylic acid.
base sequence
Medical; Human genome
1) The sequence of purines and pyrimidines in nucleic acids and polynucleotides. It is also called nucleotide sequence. 2) Order of purines and pyrimidines in nucleic acids and polynucleotides. ...
autosome
Medical; Human genome
1) An autosome is any of the numbered chromosomes, as opposed to the sex chromosomes. Humans have 22 pairs of autosomes and one pair of sex chromosomes (the X and Y). Autosomes are numbered roughly ...
bicarbonate
Medical; Human genome
Inorganic salts that contain the -HCO3 radical. They are an important factor in determining the pH of the blood and the concentration of bicarbonate ions is regulated by the kidney. Levels in the ...
