A building or part of a building, sometimes also referred to as a rehabilitation centre, approved by the home secretary and run by the probation service, to provide groupwork and other activities as part of the requirements of community rehabilitation.Offenders are required to attend and participate in activities for up to 60 days in an intensive programme intended to address their offending behaviour.(The 60-day limit does not apply to sexual offenders, who can be required to attend throughout their orders) The activities undertaken are approved by local Probation Boards and typically include alcohol education groups, offending behaviour groups, and other social skills activities, and substance misuse groups.Centres typically also contain some leisure facilities.Those failing to attend as required are subject to Breach proceedings, and centres are regulated by National standards.Probation centre users are predominantly more serious offenders for whom attendance may be alternative to imprisonment.
